The Honourable David Adams Richards is one of Canada’s most prolific and successful writers. When he was appointed to Canada’s Senate in 2017, he had written over 30 works including novels, short stories, poems, scripts and several non-fiction works. His work has been celebrated with several awards, including the 2000 Giller Prize, the Canada-Australia Literary Prize, two Gemini Awards for scriptwriting, the Alden Nowlan Award for Excellence in the Arts, and the Canadian Authors Association Award among others. He is one of the few writers to have won in both the fiction and non-fiction categories of the Governor General’s Literary Award and is a member of both the Order of New Brunswick and Order of Canada.

At the age of 16, David realized he wanted to be a writer, and since this time he has never strayed from his calling. Throughout his literary career, he has maintained an unrelenting vision of humanity that celebrates the human spirit in all its dimensions, sometimes in the darkest moments. While his work has often strayed against the grain of mainstream literature, his tenacity and conviction has enabled him to stay true to his vision and calling. David will be speaking about his career as a writer and the publishing industry in Canada. While he doesn’t consider himself an entrepreneur, his story will inspire students and budding entrepreneurs to find the inner strength and passion to stay true to their own visions and to follow their own dreams.

This session will include pizza and soft drinks.
