What is a tertulia? A tertulia can be described as a literary and artistic social gathering or a philosophy cafe where participants talk about ideas. Our tertulias combine words, music, poetry, readings, and whatever else our speakers bring. Our tertulias this winter will take place on Wednesdays at 7:00pm at Milda’s, basement of the Charlotte Street Arts Centre, 732 Charlotte St., in Fredericton. Come early and order delicious pizza or treats made with seasonal local produce and beverages.

Our first winter 2019 tertulia features Matthew Sears on Thucydides, an Athenian historian and general, on Wednesday, Jan. 16. Matthew Sears is an associate professor of Classics at the University of New Brunswick. Sears publishes broadly on ancient politics, society and culture, with special interests in war and society and literary portrayals of warfare and military leaders.
