Lecture and Panel Discussion on Plastic in the Environment at the UNB Art Centre

Our rivers, oceans and streams are being polluted with the plastic that we use and discard. Every week a news story features seabirds, turtles and other creatures washed ashore tangled up in plastic, their bellies filled with plastic litter. This is not just happening out there but here as well.

Please join us for a lecture on April 16 at 7:00 pm in Memorial Hall with Krista Beardy.  Krista will share her research in the Bay of Fundy on the presence of microplastics in clams and other mollusks.  Ms. Beardy is a graduate student studying for her MSc. at UNB and has extensive experience in monitoring and analyzing coastal waters and wetlands.

Are skipping the straws and using reusable shopping bags enough?  Should we ban plastic bags and enforce stricter regulations? Find out more at our panel discussion on April 25 at 7:00 pm in Memorial Hall.  This discussion will feature panelists Brad Janes, Manager of PR and Education from the Fredericton Solid Waste Commission; Charlene Mayes Professor of Environmental Biology at UNB; David Coon, Member of the Green Party and MLA for the Province of New Brunswick; Jeff Carr, Minister of Environment and Local Government and MLA for the Province of New Brunswick; Kelly Green, a student at Saint Thomas University and member STU Sustainability; Pierre Landry, General Manager of Encorp Atlantic and Stephen Chase, Chair of Public Safety and Environment for the City of Fredericton.

Please join us for these informative and educational events as part of World Water Day awareness campaign and the exhibit Cascade: Our Plastic, Our Planet, Our Choice, on view through June 7.

The UNB Art Centre is located at Memorial Hall, 9 Bailey Drive, University of New Brunswick, Fredericton.  The galleries are open 9 am – 4 pm weekdays and until 9 on Thursdays and for special events.  Admission is free to members of the public. Everyone welcome!
