As part of St. Thomas University’s Centenary Year celebrations, the university is hosting an International Conference on the Liberal Arts - September 30th until October 2nd, 2010. The 100th anniversary of the founding of St. Thomas University presents an occasion to take stock and critically examine the issues and challenges that liberal arts universities and colleges will encounter over the next 100 years.
The theme of the conference, “Looking Back and Moving Forward: The Next 100 Years of Liberal Arts – Confronting the Challenges”, invites professors and students to explore the achievements and developments within the liberal arts but also to look forward and critically assess imminent and future challenges. The conference program features noted authors and scholars as keynote speakers including Ronald Wright, Henri Giroux, Dorothy Smith, and Phil McShane. Additionally, there will be about 55 academic papers and workshops by noted scholars and presenters from across Canada, the United States, and other countries.
We are looking for students familiar with St. Thomas’ campus to volunteer during this three day event. We wish to enlist 100 volunteers whose tasks may include monitoring sessions (introducing presenters, keeping time, giving out and collecting evaluations), and helping with registration and information booths, and giving directions around campus. In exchange, volunteers will be able to take part in the conference for free.
If you are interested in volunteering, or would like more information on volunteering please e-mail Heather Mann: laconfhosting at stu.ca
