Alward government decides to release shale gas health study

shalegasprotestlegnov2011The Alward government has announced that they will release the health study on shale gas by Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Eilish Cleary, on Oct. 15th.

“The growing public outrage was too much for the Alward Government,” says Mark D’Arcy, a shale gas opponent based in Fredericton.

D’Arcy and his group are encouraging New Brunswickers to contact their MLA and ask them to hold meaningful public consultation on whether to allow or disallow shale gas development in New Brunswick. “This consultation should start with legislative hearings, and later include public meetings on the government’s final recommendations,” says D’Arcy.

“Let’s remind Energy Minister Craig Leonard that any discussion and decisions on shale gas regulations are premature.”
