Debt as Power: new book explains debt and austerity agendas [audio]

by From the Margins
June 22, 2015
1 min read

Debt as powerFrom the Margins interviews Richard Robbins, professor of Anthropology at the State University of New York, who has a forthcoming book with co-author Tim Di Muzio titled, Debt as Power. The book takes a historical look at how perpetual economic growth is wedded to a debt economy and argues that debt is a tool of power under capitalism that enriches the 1% at the expense of others.

Robbins speaks about the origins of debt under capitalism, what is really behind austerity measures to curtail national debts, and public responses to debt burdens.
