Mi’kmaw elders share stories about sa’qawey nipukt /old forests [audio]

by Mersey Tobeatic Research Institute
November 23, 2018
Reading Time: 1min read

Mi’kmaw ecologist, shalan joudry, tours Mi’kma’qi for stories about sa’qawey nipukt: old forests. The Elders shalan spoke with each had their own experiences to share: sometimes it was through their time
fishing, hunting, trapping, being at their family campsite, or as a spiritual place to retreat to.

Here are four conversations with Mi’kmaw Elders as they tell us about their relationships with the land and sa’qawey nipukt. This podcast was inspired by the research from ecologists and organizations such as Mersey Tobeatic Research Institute on looking for and learning from old forests.

Listen to the conversations here.
