On March 8, 2017, 41 girls were killed in a fire at the state-run centre for children and youth Hogar Seguro Virgen de la Asunción in Guatemala. In addition, 15 survivors were also left severely injured. Almost 2 years later, there is still no justice for this state crime.

Mayra Jimenez with Ocho Tijax, a collective supporting the girl victims and survivors of the Hogar Seguro fire, will speak in Fredericton on Thursday, Feb. 28 at 1:00pm at the University Women’s Centre, Room 129 at the UNB Student Union Building.

We will serve tapas and Breaking the Silence coffee.

This event is brought to you by the Maritimes-Guatemala Breaking the Silence Network- BTS, UNB IDSSA – International Development Studies Student Association, No One Is Illegal-Fredericton, STU Human Rights Society, the Canada Research Chair in Global and International Studies, Registro Creativo and St. Thomas University International Students’ Association.
