The Migrant Workers Alliance for Change has released a video celebrating a victory by migrant workers in eastern New Brunswick.
When a lobster plant in eastern New Brunswick drastically reduced the hours promised to migrant workers, the workers were forced to rely on food banks to eat. But they organized and forced the multi-millionaire owners of the lobster plant to pay the workers for 30 hours of work per week regardless of whether they worked or not.
The workers also got back the rent they had paid to the owner for housing when they were not working and struggling because they were not getting paid.
The location and name of the lobster plant is not disclosed to protect the migrant workers.
Migrant Workers Alliance for Change is part of a cross-country movement to demand permanent residence for all. They are calling on organizations and individuals across the country to support the call.
