SUMMARY:Cinema Politica: The Big Sellout
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Big Sellout\nHosted by Cinema Politica Fredericton and Gallery on Queen\n\n\n\nWednesday, December 11, 2019 at 7 PM – 8:30 PM\nGallery on Queen\n406 Queen St., Fredericton, New Brunswick E3B 1B6\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEcuador. Chile. Lebanon. Iraq. Bolivia. Colombia. As social uprisings spread across Latin America, the Middle East and the world, The Big Sellout is a timely film by Florian Opitz about the human effects of privatization of essential social services. A British train driver, a South African activist, a Filipino mother and Bolivian citizens know what privatization means and they are fighting against it. The documentary tells tragic, tragicomic but also hopeful stories of people who daily have to deal with the effects of privatization as dictated by international financial institutions, such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank. Although depicting the tragedy of privatization all over the world, the film offers hope by showing us people who are resisting, standing up and sometimes winning against all odds for themselves, their families and communities.\nContact: fredericton@cinemapolitica.org.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
