SUMMARY:THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD TO NEW BRUNSWICK
DESCRIPTION:THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD TO NEW BRUNSWICK AND THE SEARCH FOR BLACK GRAVES\n\nGovernment House, 51 Woodstock Road, Fredericton, NB\nThursday, February 20, 7:00 pm\n\nThe February presentation in the York Sunbury Historical Society Speaker series features Joe Gee of the Tomlinson Lake Hike to Freedom who will speak about the Underground railway to New Brunswick and the search for Black graves.\n\nThis free event takes place at 7:00 pm on Thursday, February 20, 2020 at Government House, 51 Woodstock Road, Fredericton. Everyone is welcome to attend and refreshments will be served.\n\nJoe Gee grew up in Carlingford, a small farming community in northwestern New Brunswick which shares the US/Canada international border with Fort Fairfield, Maine. A lifelong art and history buff, his interest in New Brunswick’s Black heritage was piqued when he learned about the Underground Railroad that passed right through his own backyard.\n\nSince 2013, Joe Gee has organized the Tomlinson Lake Hike To Freedom, an annual hiking event that takes place along North America’s northernmost route of the Underground Railroad.\n\nJoe, who is also the Vice President of the New Brunswick Black History Society, has extended his research in the search for Black burial sites and has taken part in many historical projects that create awareness of Black history.\n
