SUMMARY:Eradicate and Rise: A Protest Against Indigenous Injustices
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEradicate and Rise: A Protest Against Indigenous Injustices\nPublic · Hosted by Nate Gaffney\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThursday, August 20, 2020 at 12:30 PM – 6 PM UTC-03\nSaint Mary’s First Nation Old Reserve\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe purpose of this protest is to provoke an inquiry into New Brunswick’s and Canada’s justice systems, and to seek justice for the late Chantel Moore and Rodney Levi who were murdered by New Brunswick police officers. And for Brady Francis who was the victim of a hit-and-run while walking along a road in Saint Charles. Systemic racism has pervaded the justice system since the colonization of Turtle Island (what is now known as Canada). To this day, First Nations people continue to experience systemic racism at the hands of the Canadian justice system. This is a horrific pattern. By not tearing down the systems that allow and perpetuate this violence, continued systemic racism will claim more innocent Indigenous lives. Enough is enough. On August 20th, join us in protest at the legislature in Fredericton, New Brunswick to promote the eradication of the current racist system. Please make and bring signs with messages that you feel need to be heard by the government. We want governmental action. It is time the voices of Indigenous people are heard. Together we will eradicate the current system and rise to a higher and more just society.\n***Protestors MUST wear masks. Everyone’s physical safety at this time is a priority.***\nThe protest will begin at the Old Reserve at 12:30. We will gather there and begin our walk to the Provincial Legislature at 1:30. We will be closing down the Westmoreland Street Bridge for the march. We will walk together across this bridge to the Legislature, where we will hear from speakers and other protestors.\nPlease come join us in the fight for Indigenous justice.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
