DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n\n\nMEDIA RELEASE \n\n\n\n\nPROTESTING TO ADDRESS LACK OF ACCESS TO ABORTIONS AND LGBTQ+ HEALTHCARE IN NEW BRUNSWICK\nSaint John (New Brunswick), August 24th, 2020 – FLIP Saint John is organizing a rally in support of safe abortion access and LGBTQ+ healthcare in New Brunswick. The rally will be held on August 27th at 12:00 noon in Rothesay Common, near the office of Ted Flemming, Minister of Health. FLIP is partnering with the Abortion Access Coalition of Canada in the promotion of this event.\nCurrently, the only options for New Brunswickers to access abortions in a hospital setting are in Moncton or Bathurst. New Brunswick now stands to lose clinic 554, which is the only private clinic that offers abortion in the province, and also provides essential health services to pregnant people, 2SLGBTQIA+ people, people with addictions, and thousands of other patients for whom this clinic is their Family Doctor. If Clinic 554 closes, thousands of patients will be left without access to medical services in the initial stages of a global pandemic, and even more, will be forced to travel widely between provincial zones in order to access necessary care.\n“This rally is about respecting basic rights in Canada. Si la Clinique 554 ferme, des milliers de patientes et patients se retrouveront sans accès à des services médicaux, dans un contexte pandémique, et seront même forcé.e.s à se déplacer dans d’autres provinces pour avoir accès à ces mêmes services.\n« Cette manifestation porte sur le respect des droits fondamentaux au Canada.
