DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n\n\n\nNew Brunswick: Different Future(s) – McKenna Centre Panel Discussion\n\n \nMonday March 15th at 8PM\n \nVia Zoom:  https://zoom.us/j/97585826680\n\n\n\nThe St. Thomas University Frank McKenna Centre for Communications and Public Policy Speaker Series presents the panel discussion, “New Brunswick: Different Future(s).”\n \nThe province is in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic but at some point, the pandemic will end, and New Brunswick will need to re-shape policies and consider new directions.  Join us as four distinguished New Brunswick-based researchers and scholars discuss some of these different future(s) including social justice, immigration, the health system, climate change and governance.\n \nSpeakers\n \nDr. Gül Çalışkan is an Associate Professor of Global Sociology at St. Thomas University. Her research and teaching focus is on the broad areas of citizenship and global social justice within global and transnational sociology. Postcolonial Studies informs her research and teaching. In her research, she engages in the narrative inquiry to examine the complex relations between global processes and everyday realities.\n \nDr. Erin Fredericks is an Associate Professor in the Sociology Department at St. Thomas University. Her area of expertise is sociology of health. Within this field, she examines interconnections between gender and other forms of marginalization, representations of health and illness, and health behaviours. \n \nDr. Heather Millar is an Assistant Professor in the Political Science Department at the University of New Brunswick. She is a political scientist specializing in Canadian public policy. Her research interests include provincial energy and climate politics; risk perception; policy learning and feedback; and social acceptance of new technologies.\n \nDr. Nicole O’Byrne is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law at the University of New Brunswick. She is a legal historian whose primary area of expertise is Canadian federalism.  Her main research areas are Indigenous-non-Indigenous relations and Medicare.  She is a frequent media commentator on various constitutional and legal issues in the province.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
