DESCRIPTION:The Madhu Verma Migrant Justice Centre presents:\nChaos and Control: A film about Temporary Foreign Workers in New Brunswick (2023)\nby Drew Gilbert and Amy Floyd\nRuntime: 40 minutes\n\nMarch 13 at 6:00 PM\nHaven Music Hall, 201 Union St., Saint John\n\n\nThis documentary explores the housing and labour conditions that Temporary Foreign workers coming to New Brunswick live under. Stories are told by workers with commentary from researchers and migrant rights activists. Abuse against migrant workers is a challenging topic and the issues range from lack of support in getting timely health care, to sexual harassment to double standards in the treatment of Canadian employees and migrant workers.\n\nMany thanks to the Catherine Donnelly Foundation for supporting the production of this film with special thanks to the Migrant Workers Alliance for Change for sharing their invaluable knowledge and experience.\n\nDiscussion: 45 minutes\nAt the end of the screening, we invite you to reflect on your exposure to this important issue and your emotions with the film. We will provide some context and discuss how we can take action on these issues.\n\nFree snacks will be provided. Haven Music Hall will have hot and cold drinks (including alcoholic drinks) for purchase, please support them generously!\n\nThe Madhu Verma Migrant Justice Centre, founded by former refugees, a human rights lawyer, settlement and case workers, and migrant justice advocates is dedicated to advancing migrant justice and supporting the struggles of migrants with precarious status in NB, including migrant workers, refugee claimants, international students and people without status. The centre also advocates for systemic changes aimed at protecting the rights, equality and dignity of migrant workers.\n\n
