DESCRIPTION:\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \nPlease circulate this message in your networks. \nThe NB Media Co-op is holding a series of journalism and media production workshops in Elsipogtog starting in late May. The three-hour workshops are for Indigenous people living in Elsipogtog and will take place every two weeks at the old schoolhouse on Big Cove Road (exact time and date TBD).\nTo encourage participation, we can offer $100 per session to each participant. A maximum of 10 people can take part in each session. Because of the limited seats available, we are asking everyone to please fill out this short application form. The deadline for the first round of applications is Sunday, May 17 at midnight.\nIf you have ever been curious about journalism and media production, now is a great chance to develop your skills. The workshops will involve brainstorming story ideas, and then working on them as a group or individually, using everything from a pen and paper to professional multimedia tools.\nWe plan to publish a series of original reports from Elsipogtog on our online publication (nbmediacoop [dot] org), our YouTube channel (@nbmediacoop), our podcast (NB Pod), our community television program (the NB Update), and our bi-monthly newspaper (The Brief).\nPreference will be given to applicants who show a serious interest in journalism and media production (for example, students who plan on pursuing a career as a reporter). However, no experience is necessary.\nParticipants are expected to show up for workshops and actively contribute during the production process. This could mean writing, conducting interviews, taking photos, operating a video camera, or taking part in panel discussions, for example.\nWhat:\nJoin a journalist from the NB Media Co-op for hands-on skill share sessions. These workshops aim to cover areas including:\n-Interview skills\n-Audio/video recording and basic editing\n-Fundamentals of reporting, including legal and ethical considerations\nGoals include the production of reports geared towards positive social change. Topics can range from cultural events in the community to issues such as racism and poverty. We hope to produce at least one report every session.\nParticipants will learn about the fundamentals of reporting, with a focus on using everyday mobile devices to record audio and video. The workshops are open to people with previous experience and newbies alike.\nParticipants are encouraged (but not required) to bring mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets, or laptops. The NB Media Co-op will also bring equipment to workshops, including a video camera, a professional audio recording device, and a laptop.
