SUMMARY:Alex Cosh on Silencing Dissent Toward 5 Per Cent
DESCRIPTION:Alex Cosh is this year’s keynote speaker at the NB Media Co-op Annual General Meeting.\n\nAlex Cosh on Silencing Dissent Toward 5 Per Cent\nSeptember 23 at 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM Atlantic Time\nRegister for the Zoom webinar link here. Once you register, a Zoom link will be sent to your email.\n\nCanada is poised to hike military spending to an astonishing 5% of national GDP at the behest of U.S. President Donald Trump. That amounts to around $150 billion annually. While this gargantuan increase will be a boon to arms manufacturers and military contractors, it is expected to put an enormous strain on public funds. Despite this, corporate media have offered little if any real critical reporting on the target. Meanwhile, both the Department of National Defence and industry groups appear to be working hard to ensure that no critical journalists can ask tough questions. What can independent media do about this?\n\nAlex Cosh is managing editor of The Maple and was previously a staff writer for PressProgress. He lives and works on the traditional territory of the Tla’amin people. Find him on Twitter @AlexCosh_.\n\nFor more information, email info@nbmediacoop.org.\n
