Ceremony – Honour and Respect the Power of Wolastoq – May 6th
Qey Psi-te Wen – Greetings All, Please Share!
On Saturday, May 6th at 6:30pm i am asking Indigenous People and Allies to gather on the banks of Wolastoq between the Westmorland Bridge and the Overpass walking bridge behind the Public Library. There is lots of parking behind city hall.
Please create signs in Wolastoqewi Language simply saying the following:
- Wolastoq Nil (meaning; I am Wolastoq)
- Wolastoq Koselomol (meaning; Wolastoq I love you)
- Wolastoq Kcitposu (meaning; Wolastoq is Sacred)
- Wolastoq Wolikossu (meaning; Wolastoq is Beautiful)
- Wolastoq Pomehloqe (meaning; Wolastoq is Flowing)
- Wolastoq Askomiw (meaning; Wolastoq Forever)
It’s up to you if you want to include the English on the sign(s)
Once we gather, Wolastoqewi-Women will start the ceremony by singing Wolastoq Song followed by everyone singing to the spirit and song Aputamkon.
After the 2 songs, we will peacefully and quietly march up river as far as the Delta. The significant act here is to walk in Silence to “Honour and Respect” the Power of Wolastoq. If You wish to bring ‘Tomawey (tobacco) or another offering such as organic food for Wolastoq to honour Her, please do so! There will be a place to do Your offering(s) to Wolastoq at the boat club.
After turning at the Delta, we will then go back down river as far as the Art Gallery and then we will turn back upriver and walk to our original place of the ceremony.
That will conclude our Peaceful and Silent Act for Wolastoq.
