Fae Johnstone: Building movement power amidst threats to 2SLGBTQIA rights, bodily autonomy, and health equity

Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 7:00 PM

Gallery On Queen, 406 Queen St., Fredericton

The landscape is shifting around us. The imperfect but nonetheless beautiful consensus we built on issues of 2SLGBTQIA+ rights has become more fragile. In some places, it has fractured. We see hate rising, rights threatened, and our work to advance health equity and social justice becoming more and more difficult.

In this talk, Fae will explore what’s going on, and how we can respond effectively, based on her experience in the national queer movement. We’ll talk about effective messaging, making a strong case for ourselves, and how we can build a winning movement to get through this moment, for health equity, for queer rights, and beyond.

As Executive Director and Co-Founder of the Society of Queer Momentum, Fae is on a mission to mobilize advocates and allies towards a more free, equal and socially just future. Within her advocacy, she travels across Canada supporting queer advocates and allies on the ground, gracing conference stages, and building bridges with allies and sibling movements in every province and territory.

Endorsing the talk:  203 Centre for Gender and Sexual Diversity, Atlantic Human Rights Centre, Canadian Health Coalition, Communist Party of Canada, ElderPride, Fredericton Youth Communist League, Fredericton Palestine Solidarity, Imprint Youth, Madhu Verma Migrant Justice Centre, New Brunswick Health Coalition, QT Fatties in NB, Reproductive Justice New Brunswick, St. Thomas University’s Department of Sociology, University Women’s Centre and the UNB Student Organizing Collective.
