PROTEST to address Lack of Access to Abortions & LGBTQ+ Healthcare in New Brunswick

PROTESTING TO ADDRESS LACK OF ACCESS TO ABORTIONS AND LGBTQ+ HEALTHCARE IN NEW BRUNSWICK

Saint John (New Brunswick), August 24th, 2020 – FLIP Saint John is organizing a rally in support of safe abortion access and LGBTQ+ healthcare in New Brunswick. The rally will be held on August 27th at 12:00 noon in Rothesay Common, near the office of Ted Flemming, Minister of Health. FLIP is partnering with the Abortion Access Coalition of Canada in the promotion of this event.

Currently, the only options for New Brunswickers to access abortions in a hospital setting are in Moncton or Bathurst. New Brunswick now stands to lose clinic 554, which is the only private clinic that offers abortion in the province, and also provides essential health services to pregnant people, 2SLGBTQIA+ people, people with addictions, and thousands of other patients for whom this clinic is their Family Doctor. If Clinic 554 closes, thousands of patients will be left without access to medical services in the initial stages of a global pandemic, and even more, will be forced to travel widely between provincial zones in order to access necessary care.

MANIFESTATION POUR DÉNONCER LE MANQUE D’ACCÈS À L’AVORTEMENT ET AUX SOINS DE SANTÉ LGBTQ+ AU NOUVEAU-BRUNSWICK

Saint-Jean (Nouveau-Brunswick), 24 août 2020 – FLIP Saint John organise une manifestation pour le droit à des services d’avortement sécuritaires et pour des soins de santé pour la communauté LGBTQ+ au Nouveau-Brunswick. Le rassemblement aura lieu le 27 août à 12 h à Rothesay Common, à proximité du bureau de Ted Flemming, Ministre de la Santé. FLIP s’associe avec la Coalition pour le droit à l’avortement au Canada pour la promotion de l’événement.

Présentement, les seules options au Nouveau-Brunswick pour avoir accès à des services d’avortement dans un milieu hospitalier approprié se trouvent à Moncton et à Bathurst. Le Nouveau-Brunswick s’apprête à perdre la Clinique 554 à Fredericton, la seule clinique privée offrant l’avortement dans la province. Cette clinique offre aussi des services de soins de santé essentiels aux personnes enceintes, aux membres de la communauté 2SLGBTQIA+, aux personnes aux prises avec des problèmes de dépendance, de même que pour des milliers d’autres patientes et patients pour qui la clinique constitue leur médecin de famille. Si la Clinique 554 ferme, des milliers de patientes et patients se retrouveront sans accès à des services médicaux, dans un contexte pandémique, et seront même forcé.e.s à se déplacer dans d’autres provinces pour avoir accès à ces mêmes services.
