Join us to discuss the importance of federal-provincial relief for transit operations in New Brunswick.
Event hosted by transit workers in ATU local 1182 Saint John and local 1290 in Moncton and in ATU Canada
We are an alliance of New Brunswickers who engage, educate and motivate our communities on the crisis of service cuts in public transit.
We are reclaiming equality, opportunity and prosperity for our communities through public transit advocacy.
The elites who run the PC Party in New Brunswick failed to advocate for us federally by walking away from the table with other provinces as those leaders advocated and won investments for transit. These same elites led by Blaine Higgs then misrepresented what the negotiations were about by publically misconstruing the intent and design of the funding for transit. It was portrayed for weeks as big city infrastructure projects when the truth is it was emergency funding for transit operations on a per capita basis. It led to a newspaper column by Norbert Cunningham that justified this decision by citing a completely different federal policy from 2016.
This failure of leadership shows that our communities do not have a champion for transit in this province. This poor performance at federal negotiations by the Premier and his Cabinet led to millions of dollars in investment going to similar-sized cities across Canada except for Fredericton, Saint John and Moncton.
Through our bottom-up approach, we are organizing people most impacted by the negative effects of the PC Party’s oversights, lack of consideration and political inabilities.
Now that the PC Party knows the truth about emergency transit funding, we are calling on the Premier to do the right thing for our communities and match the funding in the federal transit stream.
Transit moved essential workers and people on essential trips during the pandemic. Every investment of $1 in transit will yield $4 in economic growth. Transit is an anchor of the economic growth.
