May Day Tea: a woman’s place is in her union
The Public Service Alliance of Canada Saint John Regional Women’s Committee is hosting a May Day Tea to celebrate International Workers’ Day and raise funds for Hestia House.
May Day marks the global struggle for labour rights and traces its roots to the Haymarket Affair of 1886 in Chicago, where workers striking for an eight-hour workday faced violent repression.
This year’s theme is “A woman’s place is in her union.” Sharon DeSousa, national president of the Public Service Alliance of Canada, will deliver the keynote address.
The event will also include access to the Ella & Frank Hatheway Labour Exhibit following the tea.
