LOCAL COMMUNITY GROUP TO HOST PUBLIC MEETINGS TO DISCUSS POSSIBLE RE-OPENING OF AIM

Following the news of an upcoming lawsuit by American Iron and Metal, seeking to quash the suspension of their Approval to Operate as a result of the fire on September 14, Saint John community group Liveable Saint John anticipates the eventual resumption of operations at the AIM scrap metal facility in the Lower West Side of Saint John.

To better understand the public impact, the community group is preparing a series of public engagement activities to gather feedback from residents, businesses, and community stakeholders. These activities include a series of online engagement sessions, a survey, and a petition.

There are two upcoming sessions in March and April
Saturday, March 23, 2:00pm – Lancaster Mall Community Room
Thursday, April 11 at 6:00pm – Saint John Free Public Library in Market Square

The objective of this public engagement activity is to produce a set of recommendations, based on public feedback, on how AIM can be better regulated by the Department of the Environment, in the interest of public health and safety.

For those who cannot attend these sessions, the public are invited to share their thoughts and experience in an online survey, or participate in the petition, available at: https://liveablesj.ca

Liveable Saint John is a volunteer-run community group. We provide a voice for citizens who previously have not been heard, and promote dialogue with community stakeholders, government, and local organizations to make neighborhoods healthier, more equitable, and more liveable for future generations.
