PROTEST IN SUPPORT OF FIRST NATIONS FISHERIES TO BE HELD THIS SATURDAY

Msit No’Kmaq

A ceremony and peaceful rally led by members of Eastern Circle Saint John, with support of local community organizations, will be held on Saturday, October 24th at 1:00 pm to stand in solidarity with the Mi’kmaq Nation on Mi’kma’ki (Halifax).

Participants will be joining together to show our support to the First Nations community and to show that Saint John is also watching the Federal, Provincial, and Municipal Governments and their response to how they are treating the First Nations people regarding their livelihoods.

Referring to the recent events in Nova Scotia, Eastern Circle has released the following statement:

“What is happening on Mi’kma’ki is no short of domestic terrorism being allowed to happen through both the Federal and Provincial Governments. We must hold the DFO, RCMP, and commercial fishermen responsible for the ongoing violence. What is happening only produces a larger path towards the ongoing genocide, oppression, systematic racism, and white supremacy that works against the Indigenous and Aboriginal people and their voices.”

The following Elders, Matriarchs, and Leaders will be in attendance: Gail Standingready, Trusted Matriarch, Ramona Moon, Wolostoq Elder & Knowledgekeeper, Brandy Stanovich, President of The Indigenous Women’s of the Wabanaki Territories

Participating Organizations include Eastern Circle SJ, FLIP Saint John, Black Lives Matter New Brunswick, Leap4Wards

Join us in prayer, drum, and help us amplify Indigenous Sovereignty.
