Thinking Beyond the Market: A film about genuinely affordable housing by Brian Doucet

All levels of government and non-profits are facing challenges in creating truly affordable housing. Municipalities, in particular, play a key role as they balance urban planning, social policies, and budgets.

The question is not just how much housing is needed, but what kind of housing and for whom. Housing remains one of Canada’s biggest and most debated issues, yet the conversation often misses the deeper questions. There are real solutions to the housing crisis already in place, though many remain hidden in plain sight.

Dr. Brian Doucet, Associate Professor in Planning at the University of Waterloo, presents a new documentary that travels coast-to-coast, highlighting projects, policies, and programs across Canada that are making a difference.
