No war with Iran | Non à la guerre à l’Iran

On Saturday, January 25, thousands of demonstrations against a war with Iran will be held across the world. In New Brunswick, a rally will be held that day in front of Saint John City Hall at 12 noon. The NB Media Co-op is publishing a statement by a collective organizing the demonstration in Montreal.

Following the call of many American organizations for a day of global action opposing a war against Iran, Montreal will respond, Saturday January 25 at 1 pm, with a demonstration whose objectives clearly aim to:

1. Denounce the demonization of Iran by the United States by all kinds of illegal or illegitimate means: false propaganda, draconian economic and financial sanctions targeting in particular Iranian oil, unilateral tearing by Trump of the Vienna Agreement on the Iranian nuclear power (JCPoA); let’s recall that IRAN voted, with 121 other U.N. countries, the Nuclear Weapons Ban Treaty (7/7/2017), boycotted by all NATO members, including Canada, France, Great Britain and USA; Mr. Tariq Rauf from 2002 to 2011 director of the Coordination of Audit and Security Policy for the International Atomic Energy Agency (Treaty of non-proliferation, U.N. 1968), claims that IRAN, while increasing the number of its centrifuges, entirely complies with the main nuclear non-enrichment clause of the JCPoA, the one clause which efficiently prevents the manufacture of nuclear bombs.
2. Particularly oppose a “regime change” war which would be waged against Iran by the United States and allies, whose preparations seem under way with the sending of 21,000 additional soldiers to the Middle East since May and the recent illegal drone killings of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, deputy head of the Iraqi Army Popular Mobilization Forces, plus eight others; these killings representing a “breach of international law, a violation of Iraqi sovereignty and an act of war against Iran” according to a Pugwash declaration in support of U.N. Secretay General Antonio Guterres’ appeal for dialogue;
3. Denounce Canada’s timid and complacent statements vis-à-vis the United States; if we appreciate Canada’s active compassion for the families of the Ukrainian flight PS752 victims, we see our country adopt an unfortunate unilateral condemnation of IRAN, without even mentioning the 52 Iranian sites, many of which distinguished by UNESCO, threatened by Donald Trump just before the airliner shoot-down, a threat rightfully denounced by German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Our demands are firm and simple:

• NO to war, no to imperialist interference and intimidation against Iran;
• NO to economic sanctions with their devastating impact on the Iranian people;
• We also DEMAND that Canada renew diplomatic ties with IRAN and dissociate itself from US policy by denouncing the assassinations perpetrated by Trump;
• We DEMAND the withdrawal from the Middle East of Canadian troops and of other foreign armies or militias.

Our solidarity with the Iranian people must first and foremost prevent them from having to endure the catastrophe of war, as the United States and its NATO allies have inflicted on other peoples, especially over the past twenty years in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria and Yemen etc. Our action in no way constitutes a support for the Iranian theocratic government. The main purpose of our demonstration is to oppose imperialist domination and to support the self-determination of the people.

À l’appel de nombreuses organisations étasuniennes à une journée d’action mondiale d’opposition à une guerre contre l’Iran, Montréal répond, samedi le 25 janvier à 13h, par une manifestation dont les objectifs veulent clairement :

1. Dénoncer la démonisation de l’Iran par les États-Unis par toutes sortes de moyens illégaux ou illégitimes: propagande mensongère, sanctions économiques et financières draconiennes visant en particulier le pétrole iranien, déchirure unilatérale par Trump de l’Accord de Vienne sur le nucléaire iranien (JCPoA). Rappelons que l’IRAN a appuyé avec 121 autres pays le Traité d’Interdiction des Armes Nucléaires (TIAN, ONU – 7/7/2017), boycotté par tous les membres de l’OTAN, dont le Canada. M. Tariq Rauf, – qui a dirigé de 2002 à 2011 la Coordination de la Politique de Vérification et de Sécurité pour l’Agence Internationale d’Énergie Atomique (Traité de non-prolifération, ONU 1968) – affirme que si l’Iran augmente le nombre de ses centrifugeuses, il respecte la clause principale du JCPoA de non-enrichissement nucléaire prévenant la fabrication de bombes nucléaires.
2. S’opposer à une guerre « de changement de régime » qui serait menée contre l’Iran par les États-Unis, dont les préparatifs semblent déjà avancés avec l’envoi de 21 000 soldats supplémentaires au Moyen-Orient depuis le mois de mai. Les récents assassinats du général iranien Qasem Soleimani et d’Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, député chef des Forces populaires de mobilisation de l’armée irakienne, ont représenté une «brèche dans la loi internationale, une violation de la souveraineté irakienne et un acte de guerre contre l’Iran », selon Pugwash qui appuie le Secrétaire Général des Nations unies, Antonio Guterres, dans son appel à la retenue, à la désescalade de la tension et au retour au dialogue;
3. Dénoncer les déclarations timides et complaisantes de Trudeau face aux États-Unis; si on apprécie sa compassion en faveur des victimes du vol ukrainien PS752, on déplore leur instrumentalisation en condamnation unilatérale de l’IRAN; rappelons, juste avant l’accident, que Donald Trump, rabroué avec fermeté par la chancelière allemande Angela Merkel, a menacé 52 sites iraniens, dont certains inscrits au patrimoine de l’UNESCO.

Nos revendications sont :

• NON à la guerre, à l’ingérence et à l’intimidation impérialistes contre l’Iran;
• NON aux sanctions économiques aux impacts dévastateurs sur le peuple iranien;
• Nous demandons que le Canada renoue les liens diplomatiques avec l’IRAN et se dissocie de la politique états-unienne en dénonçant les assassinats perpétrés par Trump;
• Nous exigeons le retrait des troupes canadiennes et de toutes armées ou milices étrangères présentes au Moyen-Orient.

Notre solidarité envers le peuple iranien doit avant tout empêcher qu’il ait à subir la catastrophe d’une guerre, comme les États-Unis, l’OTAN et le Canada en ont infligées à d’autres peuples, notamment au cours des vingt dernières années en Irak, en Afghanistan, en Libye, en Syrie et au Yémen.

Notre action ne constitue nullement un appui au gouvernement théocratique iranien.

Le but essentiel de la manifestation du 25 janvier est de s’opposer à la domination impérialiste et de soutenir l’auto‑détermination des peuples.
