No justice for migrant workers during COVID-19 pandemic [podcast]

Poster inset: If capital can cross borders, so can we! Art by Jesus Barraza, 2008, dignidadrebelde.com.

Migrant farm workers are suffering through the pandemic in ways not experienced by Canadian citizens and permanent residents in the country. In the following conversation with Asaf Rashid, Chris Ramsaroop with Justice for Migrant Workers, a group that does outreach and solidarity work with migrant farm workers in Canada, discusses a number of issues facing migrant farm workers at this difficult time, including the importance of inclusiveness for all workers when it comes to government support, lack of information or guidance for migrant farm workers, a lack of access to the supports that are being provided to other workers. The podcast is 15 minutes.

Justice for Migrant Workers issued a statement requesting urgent action for temporary and foreign workers and COVID-19. You can read it here.

Asaf Rashid is a lawyer currently on a leave while working as a union organizer in Halifax. He is also a contributor to the NB Media Coop and other independent media.
