Fredericton-based author and community activist Jeremias Tecú is a survivor of the Guatemalan civil war during which his two brothers were disappeared.
Tecú came to Fredericton in 2002 fleeing for his life. His novel, In the Arms of Inup, came out in 2021,
authored as told to Eve Mills Allen. It discloses the story of Tecú’s traumatic experiences in Guatemala and of his adaptation in New Brunswick.
Tecú is a settlement worker at the Multicultural Association of Fredericton, aiding newcomers with their acclimatisation.
He is also a founding board member for the Madhu Verma Migrant Justice Centre, “an organization dedicated to advancing migrant justice and supporting the struggles of migrants with precarious status in New Brunswick.”
