Activists organize for social change at Social Forum in Wolastokuk [video]

The 2025 Social Forum in Wolastokuk brought together social justice activists over the weekend in Fredericton.

The NB Media Co-op livestreamed panels, presentations, and workshops to make the events available for those who couldn’t attend in-person.

Multiple workshops and panels took place simultaneously throughout the weekend, (you can find the full program here).

We couldn’t capture all of the action ourselves, so participants are encouraged to contribute their videos, photos, and audio recordings to info@nbmediacoop.org. Check our online publication in the coming days and weeks for more.

Saturday’s livestream included:

-Opening ceremony by Chief Ron Tremblay, Wolastoq Grand Council
-Independent media in New Brunswick, past, present, future. Panel discussion by the NB Media Co-op
-Energy Democracy. Workshop by the Coalition for Responsible Energy Development in New Brunswick (CRED-NB) and Conservation Council of New Brunswick (CCNB)
-Debunking Myths, Building Solidarity with Migrant Workers in New Brunswick. Presentation by the Madhu Verma Migrant Justice Centre and the Migrant Workers Alliance for Change
-Coalition Building for Revolutionary Change. Presentation by the Fredericton club of the Communist Party of Canada
-Capitalism, Socialism, Activism: What can we expect to achieve? Presentation by Thom Workman and the Leo Panitch School for Socialist Education

Sunday’s livestream included:

-Radioactivity Benefits and Harms and Nuclear Waste on Peskotomuhkati Homeland. Panel discussion hosted by the Canadian Coalition for Nuclear Responsibility and Passamaquoddy Recognition Group.
-Be…in this place?: Shared Aspirations for a More Inclusive & Diverse Province. Session hosted by Promise of Home.
-The Many vs The Money. Session hosted by Sierra Club Canada Foundation.

The Social Forum in Wolastokuk brought together individuals, organizations, and community groups from across New Brunswick for two days of public discussion, workshops, and information sharing. The theme, The Many vs The Money, reflects ongoing efforts to build a more socially and environmentally just province.
