Remembering Randy Dickinson

Randy Dickinson, longtime disability rights and human rights advocate. Photo submitted.

Mr. Dickinson devoted his life to the advancement of human rights, accessibility, dignity, inclusion and equity for everyone living in New Brunswick and beyond. His vision, compassion and commitment to human rights have left a deep imprint on our province.

For his years of community service, he was awarded the Order of Canada in 1999 and named as a member of the Order of New Brunswick in 2022 for his lifetime contributions to human rights. Mr. Dickinson also served as executive director across several prominent provincial organizations, including Easter Seals New Brunswick, the Premier’s Council on Health Strategy, the Canadian Paraplegic Association, and the Premier’s Council on Disabilities, which awards an annual scholarship in his name. He was a driving force in the development and passage of New Brunswick’s landmark Accessibility Act in 2024.

Mr. Dickinson’s fair-minded direction, tireless activism and unshakable belief that every New Brunswicker deserves the right to be fully included in all aspects of society has moved our province forward and made it a better place for all who call this place home.

The commission is infinitely grateful for its association with Mr. Dickinson and immensely proud of the important human rights work that was accomplished thanks to his leadership as chairperson and his dedication as a member. In honour of his indelible legacy, we encourage New Brunswickers to uphold Mr. Dickinson’s vision of a province where the dignity and equality of all persons are paramount.

Amber Chisholm is the chair of the New Brunswick Human Rights Commission. This statement was originally published on the Government of New Brunswick website on May 20, 2026.
