CEDAR (Contesting Energy Discourses through Action Research), the NB Media Co-op and partners invite amateur and professional artists to participate in a visual and written arts competition organized as part of Reclaiming Power, Forum on the Energy and Socio-ecological Transitions scheduled for October 2027.

This competition aims to make room for diverse perspectives and opinions on today’s environmental, economic and social challenges. Whether your work expresses concern, encourages reflection, conveys a commitment or imagines an ideal or desirable future, we are interested! Feel free to interpret the forum’s theme according to your own vision, sensibilities and artistic approach.

Visual works may include drawings, collages, paintings or photographs, among other forms. They must be submitted as high-quality digital images and accompanied by a title and a description explaining how they relate to the Forum’s theme. Written works, such as stories, poems and essays, must have a title and must not exceed 1,000 words.

Written works and descriptions of visual works must be submitted in French, English or an Indigenous language. They will be published in the same language in the book.

The works selected by our jury will be published in a book to be launched during the Forum, scheduled for October 1–3, 2027, at the Charlotte Street Arts Centre in Fredericton. Selected participants will receive $250 and a free copy of the book. The selected works will be announced no later than April 22, 2027.

Artists retain copyright and authorize CEDAR and the NB Media Co-op to reproduce their work in the Forum’s book and on their social media channels as part of communications related to the event.

The call for submissions and participation guidelines are available at: https://cedar-project.org/call-appel/

CEDAR, the NB Media Co-op and their partners thank everyone who will submit their work. We look forward to seeing how your different perspectives can help us reclaim power and bring greater attention to the environmental challenges of our time.
